A major venue for sport

With its unique setting and exceptional climate, Nice is ideal for sporting events. The city received the title of European City of Sport 2011.
Nice demonstrates its fantastic potential and astounding dynamism in the organisation many major international events, like the ATP Nice Open Tennis Tournament, Ironman Triathlon and the International French Riviera Nice-Cannes marathon with over 10,000 participants. In addition to such regularly scheduled events, there are other, single top-level events, like the Louis Vuitton Trophy in 2009, World Figure Skating Championships in 2012, France-Portugal handball and France-Argentina volley ball matches, the Francophonie Games in 2013 and the European Masters Games in 2015, which attracted over 7,000 athletes from the world over.

Expertise in organising events

Nice, capital of the French Riviera, is much more than a great sporting city. It is also renowned for its experience and expertise in the organisation of major cultural events with several thousand spectators: concerts by the likes of U2, Coldplay, Madonna, Muse and Rihanna, who will be performing in July 2016; occasions like the Nice Jazz Festival and the Carnival of Nice, strong symbols of the city’s festive spirit, and the International Fair of Nice.
Moreover, great world leaders have grown accustomed to choosing Nice for hosting their summits: signature in 2001 of the Treaty of Nice, a major treaty defining the decision-making conditions in preparation for enlargement of the European Union. Nice also held a NATO Summit in 2005, a Franco-Italian Summit in 2007, an EU-Russia Summit in 2008 and the France-Africa Summit in 2010.

An integrated security concept

Nice would never have been chosen, without the guarantee of a foolproof security system, which has no equivalent in France outside Paris. This was possible thanks to the cohesion and complementarity of the State and local communities.
The reliability of this integrated safety and security concept lies as much in its capacity for anticipation and risk prevention as in its responsiveness in the face of unforeseen events. This integrated concept is also effective in the area of health and sanitation and the implementation of emergency measures. It ensures that major events can be held without a hitch.
